Molly Alter
Molly Alter is a Partner at Northzone, based in New York, investing across early and growth stages with a particular focus on Vertical SaaS and AI. Her portfolio includes GovDash, GC.AI, ToplinePro, and Clarium.
Before joining Northzone, Molly was an investor at Index Ventures and Insight Partners, where she invested in and served on the boards of leading technology companies including Quantive, Glia, Lightricks, and Frame.io, which sold to Adobe for $1.3B.
Since beginning her venture capital career in 2016, she has led and supported investments across the U.S. and Europe, developing a transatlantic perspective on scaling B2B software companies. Molly holds a degree with highest honors in the History of Science from Harvard University.
What’s a non-obvious experience that makes you better at investing?
I grew up playing competitive tennis and see many parallels to investing. Pattern matching helps, but having the confidence to go “cross-court” when it doesn’t make statistical sense is what separates great players—and great investors—from the rest.
Where would we find you outside of work?
Hunting for the world’s best Caesar Salad—and making my own. If you want to debate anchovies, parmesan, and what constitutes greatness in this complex and high-stakes realm, pull up a chair.
If you weren’t working at Northzone, where would we find you?
I spend many weekends and vacations creating mockumentary films that feature my family and friends. If I weren't an investor, this is where I'd try my hand!
